International policies of the United States and Russia are destabilizing the World
About equal numbers – respectively 56% and 52% – of the surveyed 52,494 global citizens hold negative opinions of the role of the two military superpowers, with only one in four believing their foreign policies have a stabilizing impact on world’s affairs.
Internally about two thirds of Russians are convinced that the international policies of their country are having a stabilizing effect. The same figure is significantly lower among US citizens, reflecting the deep internal divisions within American society.. More…
Optimism for the New 2019 year continues to prevail in the World, although pessimism is increasing
Prospects for a better 2019 year are increasing for a majority of those surveyed in Africa (typically quite an optimistic region despite living conditions), in India, in non-EU Europe, in the USA and in Latin America. Conversely, we also see more pessimism about the year ahead in the Middle East, in Russia, and to an extent in Western Europe.
Over all optimism for the new Year traditionally prevails in the majority of the countries around the world with the exception this year of Turkey, Serbia, UK, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Bosnia (BiH), Bulgaria, Hong Kong, France, Italy, Lebanon, Jordan and Republic of Korea. More…
The World Loses Confidence in Global Leaders
It is often said that during times of uncertainty we need our leaders to ‘step up’ – history looks back fondly on Winston Churchill, on Nelson Mandela, on Mahatma Gandhi and many others. People are ambiguous about new technology according to the WIN World Survey (WWS)
Almost 40% (39%) of people would never use these apps especially females (40%), older people 55+ (50%) and 62% of people with no or little education.
Only 19% of people globally had no problem with APPS that use their personal data. Males (21%), Young people 18 – 24yrs (25%) and those who had completed higher levels of Education (23%) are least concerned. More…
Annual world survey shows that happiness continues to decline
As 2018 came to a close, the Happiness of the world has continued its decline from a high of 57% in 2016 to just 52% in 2018. Of the 30,890 people polled 8% declared themselves to be unhappy, figure that remains the same compared to 2016 while those that are neither happy nor unhappy increased from 26% in 2016 to 30% in 2018. Two Global Leaders with Very Different Global Perceptions
Two years ago, just before he left office almost three in five (59%) of those polled throughout 65 countries around the world held a favourable view of US President Barack Obama. This year and having been in office for just over a year, President Trump does not poll so favourably – 31% holding a favourable view of him, 58% an unfavourable view. (He is the only political leader where a majority hold an unfavourable view of him). Meanwhile President Putin has gone from one in three (33%) viewing him favourably to 43%, a significant increase over two years. Economically more difficult year to come
Economic optimism has declined over the last months. The study shows that 28% of the world is now optimistic for the economic outlook in 2018, but the economic pessimism is 2 points higher. Net optimism (the shares of those saying the next year will be one of economic prosperity minus the shares of those who say the next year will be one of economic difficulties) has shown a downward trend from +23 at the end of 2015 and +20 at the end of 2016 to -2 at the end of 2017. Putin leads globally over Trump as a choice for country leader, new constellations of nations are emerging

Choosing between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump over one quarter (29%) of the respondents globally declare to prefer as head of state of their own country the Russian leader. Donald Trump is preferred as country leader by 17%. More…
